Whistler: Dining on a budget

Snow on the mountains around Whistler signals that great skiing is coming !! © Spaswinefood
A Whistler visit is always fun. It was real special to visit just before the start of this year's ski season. No visit to Whistler is complete without checking out some fun dinning options. Whistler, like all ski resorts, tends to be on the expensive side for dining out. There are, however, some great budget restaurants around town.

One of the best online sources to check out where to dine in Whistler is WhistlerBlackcomb Restaurants, which provides a complete list of restaurants in all price ranges. Not only does it provide information on price but it also provides reviews.  Two other online sources that I found useful were TripAdvisor and Nileguide. TripAdvisor provides a list of cheap eats (Opa, McDonald's, KFC, Quiznos, Domino's Pizza and Portobella). It also provides a complete list of 140 restaurants with price info and reviews. Nileguide provides its top 10 picks of the best Cheap Whistler Restaurants. Below are some of the restaurants on the list:

Halloween weekend in Whistler was great because the town was all geared up for celebration.

Some of the restaurants that I managed to check out were The Old Spaghetti Factory, Earl's Restaurant and Pub, La Brasserie, Mongolie Grill , Bread Garden Café and Elements Urban Tapas.

The Old Spaghetti Factory Whistler is one of the most popular budget restaurants in Whistler for lunch or dinner. The TripAdvisor reviews provide the overall range of opinions. 10Best lists it as one of Whistler's restaurants with main courses for less than $15. In summary if you are looking for a gourmet meal you will be disappointed but if you are looking for a good pasta dinner for a great price then you will be happy.  There is also a good selection of wine at reasonable prices.

Earls Restaurant and Pub Whistler is a good choice for lunch or dinner. 10Best lists it in the 15-30$, with its average main course around $15.

We took breakfast at La Brasserie des Artistes. The reviews of this restaurant have been mixed.  The morning we visited, breakfast was good.

We dropped by Mongolie Grill for dinner. We enjoyed selecting our food for the chef to grill. Both of our stir fries were excellent.

Another day we had an enjoyable lunch stop at the Bread Garden Cafe.

On our last evening in Whistler we decided to eat at Elements Urban Tapas. They had a three course special that we ordered for dinner.

Elements was great!!

We enjoyed visiting Whistler just before the ski season. Some of the restaurants however were closed doing repairs or upgrades before the start of the ski season. Wish I could have stayed longer because there were banners around town advertising Whistler's November 11-14 Wine and Food Celebration at Cornucopia.

The nice thing about Whistler is after all that eating there are lots of great hiking trails. On one such walk we saw a bear.
