After a relaxing Thanksgiving in
Playa Del Carmen we headed south to
Chetumal, Quintana Roo (just over 265 km. away) to cross into the Belize.

It was a pleasant morning drive through rural Yucatán to the Chetumal. Driving through this section of the Yucatán, we often had to slow down in the small towns. The small towns have topes (speed bumps), positioned well to make traffic slow down. The vendors (sometimes called "topes") often position themselves near the speed bump to take advantage of the slow down in traffic. Here are a few photos along the route:

Along the route we would pass through small towns with names, like
Limones. Many of these towns are engaged in the growing of limons and other fruits such as, oranges, melons and papayas.

We saw thatched roofs on many of buildings along the highway.

We would pass marked exits to towns, like
Bacalar. All the towns along the route are quite interesting to explore.

Our border crossing from Mexico into Belize went smoothly. We checked out of Mexico, both our car and ourselves. Crossing the border with a car there is that extra step at customs. Here is
another traveler's experience that maybe helpful to those crossing the border on bus.
Our three week road trip through Mexico went perfectly. We were happy that we got to drive the east coast of Mexico. We can now say that we have driven all the three major highway routes in Mexico. John has now visited all the states in Mexico. He claims that I am short one state (Aguascalientes). While there were quite a few security check points along the route, the security checks were always pleasant and done professionally. We always enjoyed talking with the soldiers at the check points. We had some great food and margaritas during our travels.
Mexico has the best margaritas!
I invite you to join me in my travels through Mexico in search of the best in Spaswinefood.
