Vignamaggio Wine Estate: Mona Lisa and Wine

Vignamaggio Wine Estate gave birth to Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. The Vignmaggio Wine Estate is a winery with a fascinating history. In fact the winery dates back to 1404. Mona Lisa was born there in 1479. During our visit we toured this historic property and did a wine tasting.

Since we arrived at the end of the day we did not tour the vineyards. I did however capture a late day photo of the vineyard.

My earliest memories of Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa date way back. Then later, I visited the Louve in Paris. During the Louve visit the scale used in the painting of Mona Lisa captured my attention. From my perspective her hands looked out of portion to her body. No prior photos of Mona Lisa that I had seen gave me the same experience. It was her smile that always captured my imagination prior to seeing the actual painting. I have since learned that focusing on the hands was an important aspect of the painting.

Now, here I am some years later at the Vignamaggio wine estate where Mona Lisa once lived. Whether it is Mona Lisa’s smile, her hands or my visit to Vignamaggio Mona Lisa came to life for me. Art is still an important part of today's Vignamaggio. Vignamaggio has an ongoing art exhibition for visitors.

After we toured the grounds briefly, we visited the wine cellars; then did a wine tasting. Click on the following links for reviews of some of the wines we tasted: Vignamaggio Chianti Classico 2009, Vignamaggio Chianti Classico Di Prenzano 2009, Vignamaggio Chianti Classico Castello di Mona Lisa Riserva 2006 and Vignamaggio Obession 2007.

In addition to art and wine Mona Lisa's Villa Vignamaggio offers accommodations. You can check it out on Tripadvisor. While I did not have any spa time Vignamaggio does offer spas services at Benessere a Vignamaggio.
