Divine food and wine at Seehofkeller Restaurant, Alto Adige

Alto Adige in northeastern Italy has excellent cuisineMary Caldwell's article describes the influences on cuisine in this region. During an October European Wine Bloggers trip I got a brief insight into the culinary landscape of Alto Adige, also known as Südtirol, or South Tyrol in English. When we toured the Alto Adige wine region our first stop was at Kellerei Cantina Tramin.  Our lunch that day was at Seehofkeller Ristorante. This was an excellent choice. Lunch was fabulous and so was the setting.

Our wines during lunch were provided by Kellerei Cantina Terlan and Kellerei Cantina Tramin. Our lunch started with a wine soup. The soup was truly amazing.  I was told the wine used in the soup we had was 60% Pinot Blanco, 30% x white wine and 10% y white wine (see recipes).

We started with a Kellerei Cantina Terlan Terlaner Classico 2010 wine, which was followed by Kellerei Cantina Tramin Gewürztraminer "Nubaumer" 2010 wine.

Next, we were served a Gnocchi in a spinach creme sauce, with Parmesan.

The wine was Kellerei Cantina Terlan Pinot Noir Montigl Riserva 2009. I loved this wine. A few others agree with me (see Vinopedia).

For desert there was Apple Strudel. It was paired with Kellerei Cantina Tramin "Terminum" Gewürztraminer Tardiva.

If you visit Alto Adige wine country and you want your food cravings to be treated royally, go to the Seehofkeller Ristorante. What a great introduction to Südtirol cuisine it was!

After a great tasting at Kellerei Cantina Tramin, a perfect lunch at Seefhokeller Ristorante, we had one more tasting at Kellerei Cantina Terlan. Little did I know, what special treat was waiting there. Maybe, it was the mountain air, the wine or taking photos to fall colors, I completely missed the shining new red Ferrari parked in the driveway.
