Halloween is one of the most celebrated days

Each fall, just as the leaves begin to change their colors, the pumpkin harvest begins. Fall colors signals that Halloween celebrations are just around the corner. Early each September pumpkin displays start appearing at local California supermarkets. Below are a few photos of  this year's displays:

Halloween Celebrations
With the arrival of fall days neighborhoods get all geared up for Halloween. It is the time of the year when there is a chill in night air and leaves begin to fall. It is also the time of the year when thoughts turn to ghosts and goblins. If you take a walk in your neighborhood in October you will most likely encounter homes decorated for Halloween. It is thought that over 65% of Americans decorate their home, or workspace for Halloween. Halloween is one of the most celebrated days of the year next to Christmas.

The Origin of Halloween can be traced back to the Celtic people of Pre-Medieval Europe. The history of Halloween is quite interesting. Wikepedia, notes that while Halloween is primarily celebrated in Western World it is also celebrated around the world.

At Home for Halloween
Last year we celebrated Halloween in Naglee Park, San José. Naglee Park, an historic San José neighborhood has lots of Halloween Spirit. Halloween parties started on the weekend before Halloween.

This year Spaswinefood is traveling in Turkey prior to European Wine bloggers Conference (EWBC12). Children in Turkey do not celebrate Halloween. However, the idea has been introduced here by children from other countries who do celebrate Halloween while abroad. I have seen  pumpkins for sale. While pumpkins are not used for Halloween celebrations in Turkey they are used to make food.

Halloween Treats
Halloween is all about the custom of "trick or treat". Food is often a part of giving treats. This year leading up to Halloween I am finding Halloween food ideas everywhere I look. Since the focus is on eating healthy this means there are some healthy options for Halloween treatsWhat about a super healthy drink called a Goblin Smoothie?

If you are looking for some Halloween drinks for a party you may want to check out sites such as Spooky Halloween Cocktails and  Spooky Sipping Halloween Drinks. Above all, have fun and be safe on Halloween. Also, do not forget to take a walk in your neighborhood to check out all the Halloween decorations.
