If you visit the historic Taylor's Port Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto (Oporto) you will most likely also dine at Taylor's Barão Fladgate Restaurant. Taylor's, one of the oldest founding Port houses, was our first port lodge stop on a beautiful October Saturday. Located at the top of the Gaia hillside overlooking Porto and the Douro River, the view from Taylor's is absolutely majestic. After our Port tasting we were thrilled to have lunch at the Barão Fladgate Restaurant.
When we visited Taylor's we arrived early so I decided to check with the Maitre d' about our online reservation given that I had not received a confirmation. It was good I did because he reassured us that we would have a table at noon. If you are planning to dine at the Barão Fladgate Restaurant do not forget to make a reservation in advance.

Lunch at Barão Fladgate Restaurant
Dining at Taylor’s Barão Fladgate Restaurant was a memorable experience. The restaurant is located at the top of a hill overlooking the city. From our table we had a great view. If you are looking for a table with a view make sure you request it.

We did not select a Port for dinner, as we planned to do other more tastings in the afternoon. Earlier when we arrived at Taylor's we bought tickets that included a tour and a basic tasting. We also purchased some extra tastings. For reviews of Taylor's Port Lodge see Tripadvisor. Our dining experience at Barão Fladgate Restaurant was awesome. We expereinced excellent service, great food and a wonderful view. Who could ask for more? See restaurant reviews at Mostly Food & Travel Journal, Lonely Planet and Tripadvisor.

While Taylor's is likely to top most wine lovers list there are over 50 port lodges in Porto to explore. After lunch we walked down the hill towards the Douro River waterfront to check out a few more port lodges. One of the lodges that we saw included Sandeman's Port Lodge. We were well acquainted with the Sandeman symbol because we had tasted port at Sandeman's Quinta do Seixo a few days earlier in the Douro Valley.
Our visit to Taylor's was another great opportunity for me to discover more about Port (see Jason Bandt Lewis article). While in Portugal Spaswinefood enjoyed tasting and learning about all things Port. I invite you to join me in my travels in Portugal and elsewhere in search of the best in Spaswinefood.
