Wine takes flight at Wynn's Country Club, Las Vegas

During a December visit to Las Vegas I dropped by Wynn's Country Club for lunch with a friend. The Country Club at Wynn's has a beautiful setting for some great wine and food. Since both of us are wine bloggers we decided to try a wine flight to sample over lunch.

The wine flight we ordered included (1) Momo, Marlborough Pinot Noir, 2008 (see reviews at Old Parn's Wine Review, Vinopedia and Wine Align) (2) Stratton Lummis The Riddde, Napa Valley Red Wine NV (see reviews at Snooth and The Sip-Worthy Cellar) and (3) Dutch Henry Winery, Napa Valley, Hillside Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 (see reviews at Cellar Tracker and wine-searcher ).

Last time Spaswinefood visited Napa I dropped by Dutch Henry Winery; so it was easy to identify with one of the wines in the flight. It was equally exciting to be introduced some new wines. As the reviews suggest it was a good flight.

For lunch we started with a salad. Our entrees choices were steak and portobello mushroom.

For dessert we chose a fruit sorbet.

Wynn's Country Club gets great reviews at OpenTableTripadvisor, and Yelp.  At Wynn's you have many dining options, such as Le Cave Wine and Food Hideaway with some special wine offerings. If you get lucky at the tables you might want to drop by to celebrate. Whatever your reason you can not go wrong with sampling a wine flight at Wynn's. Now for some further tips on finding great dining spots in Las Vegas.

Tips for finding a great Las Vegas dining spot
Las Vegas is an amazing city. It draws visitors from around the world. While most come to try their luck at the tables, some visitors come to Las Vegas just to dine. Las Vegas offers some of the best dining in the US. Whenever Spaswinefood visits Las Vegas I love to check out the dining scene. To sort out the best places to dine in Vegas can be a challenge. In fact there are a number of books written on this very topic.

What I have discovered is that there are a few general patterns in online dining information on Las Vegas. The most useful information is contained in two types of lists. The two types are lists provided by culinary experts and lists compiled based on diners rankings.  Here is a brief overview of the lists that I found helpful to decide on where to dine in Las Vegas.

The culinary experts lists
Here are the culinary expert lists that I used:
Epicurious lists the top five Las Vegas restaurant picks in the categories of high end, budget, local favorites and hot spots.
Gayot is a comprehensive online dining resource. Included in the resource is the professional review and diners views as well.
New York Post article lists the top 10 tables on the strip.
Travel and Leisure describes its top Las Vegas picks.
USA Today lists the top 10 Las Vegas restaurants.

The diners lists
In the case of the diners list there are the common ones you see but then there a a few unique to Las Vegas. Here are the lists that I consulted:
Las Vegas Restaurants maintains a list where diners have been rating Las Vegas restaurants since 2005. Here you will find the top 10 according to the following criteria: Overall dining experience, best service, best food, best ambiance, best wine list and best value for money.
Tripadvisor needs little introduction because everyone has used it to find out what others have said about hotels, restaurants and so on. On Tripadvisor's restaurant list diners have rated the restaurants.
OpenTable provides restaurant reviews based on diners opinions, plus it is also a restaurant reservation service.
Urbanspoon post a list of restaurants with ranking by diners
Yelp also post a list of restaurants with ranking by diners

Improve your odds of having a great dining experience
Now that you have some online sources to check out you can improve your odds of finding that perfect dining experience by considering certain factors.  While figuring out how much you want to spend will influence you choice there are other factors. Other factors like type of cuisine, location (on or off The Strip), etc. I also found that it is important to decision on the meal whether it is breakfast, brunch, lunch or diner. Or, in the case of Las Vegas late night dining there are some specific recommendations. Las Vegas is after all a city that never sleeps.

We had excellent wine, food and service at Wynn's Country Club.  This is not surprising because it tops most lists. My overall suggestion is to use online sources but also know your dining needs are. With a little research you can improve your odds of having a great dining experience in Las Vegas. Las Vegas has so many great restaurants and there are new restaurants opening all the time. I invite you to join me in my travels in Las Vegas and elsewhere in search of the best in Spaswinefood

  1. The Wynn is my favourite place to stay in Vegas.
I was too excited to eat at Sinatra located in the Encore but it really didn't live up to my expectations.
The country club looks lovely though. There is nothing better than sipping some wine on one of the outdoor patio areas in the Las Vegas sun!
