Jodar Vineyards and Winery, El Dorado Wine Country

During a recent trip to El Dorado Wine Country Spaswinefood visited Jodar Vineyards and Winery tasting room in Camino. The family owned winery is located in the Sierra Foothills El Dorado American Viticultural Area (AVA). El Dorado Wine Country with its spectacular scenery, historic towns and friendly tasting rooms offers the perfect wine country escape. This wine region is located only an hour from South Lake Tahoe and Sacramento and only two hours from San Francisco and Reno. Yes, El Dorado Wine Country is an easy day trip. If a El Dorado Wine Country visit is in your future plans then put Jodar Vineyards and Winery on your list.  Do not forget to pack your picnic basket because this winery has a great picnic area.

Jodar Vineyards and Winery tasting room was opened in 2005. The development of Jodar vineyards however, overlooking the American River Canyon began in 1985. The winery produced its first harvest in 1990.

Wines from Jodar's vineyards included Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Sarah, Bordeaux blends and Chardonnay. They also produce gold medal Sangiovese, Zinfandel and Barbera produced from grapes grown in select Foothill vineyards.  The winery is best known for its Barbera and its blends.

Private Reserve Cabernet 2008

Apollo's Lyre Bordeaux 2009 is a blend of estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), estate grown Merlot (40%) and estate grown Cabernet Franc (20%).

On the tasting list they offer a Black Bear Port 2009, estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon (100%). In addition to the regular tasting I got to taste their 2009 Zinfandel, a double gold winner at San Francisco Chronicle Competition. This wine was a special treat indeed.

After wine tasting at Jodar we enjoyed a picnic lunch in the garden. It was a beautiful place for a picnic on such a wonderful spring day.
