Tasting vintage 2012 Bergström Wines

When I arrived at Bergström Wines the tasting room was buzzing with excitement on a sunny July afternoon. This Willamette Valley family winery is known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The winery uses biodynamic methods in all of its six estate vineyards. In fact Bergström Wines prides itself in that it uses sustainable farming practices in the production of grapes for their wines. The day I dropped by their tasting room the tasting menu included wines from their 2012 vintage. Since this was my first time visiting Bergström I was excited to learn about their wines.

When you enter into the winery driveway you immediately catch a glimpse of the winery at the top of the hill.

Moreover, when we drove by the estate vineyard, Bergström Vineyard we passed rows of grapevines. No matter how many vineyards I visit, I am always glad to experience a vineyard during the peak growing season.

We began our tasting with a Bergström Le Pré Du Col Vineyard, Pinot Noir 2012 from the Ribbon Ridge AVA

After our first tasting was poured we moved to the outside patio. It was the perfect spot because views of the Bergström Estate Vineyard from the patio are awesome.

We continued our tasting of Le Pré Du Col Vineyard, Pinot Noir 2012 on the patio, overlooking the estate vineyard.

The next wine was from the Chehalem Mountains AVA. It was a Bergström Pinot Noir 2012 from the Silice Vineyard.

The next tasting was a Bergström wine from the Dundee Hills AVA, a Bergström Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012.

The last wine was from the Willamette Valley AVA. It was a Sigrid Chardonnay 2012. I so enjoyed tasting the Sigrid Chardonnay 2012 at the end of the wine tasting. It was a nice contrast to the Pinot Noirs I tasted.

Sitting there on the patio, overlooking the Bergström Estate Vineyard, it was the perfect setting for a wine tasting.

After tasting five Bergström 2012 wines from four AVA's I can see why the wines produced by winemaker Josh Bergström are amongst the most sought after wines in Oregon. Wine and Cheese and others have given high praises to Bergström's 2012 wines. I totally agree with these assessments. Their Sigrid Chardonnay 2012 was quite impressive. My favorites however, were the Bergström Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012 and the Winery Block Vineyard Pinot Noir 2012. You will find reviews of Bergström wines by Jancis RobertsonThe Prince of Pinot Noir and Snooth. A Food & Wine article by Lettie Teague comments on the early success of Bergström wines. You will also find visitors comments at Tripadvisor and Yelp.

It was indeed a special treat to taste Bergström Wines from their 2012 vintage. If your travels take you to Willamette Valley checkout Bergström Wines. Their great wines and beautiful winery setting put it on the list of wineries not to be missed. Wine & Spirits named it one of the top 100 wineriesDuring a Willamette Valley Wine Country visit you will find there are many wonderful Willamette Valley wineries to visit. The Oregon Wine Board provides a complete list of Oregon wine regions. I invite you to join me in my travels in Oregon and elsewhere in search of the best in Spaswinefood
