No, it was not just any day. It was the day
we had lunch at the Blue Window Restaurant in Slatina, Romania. Lunch that day was
indeed a special treat. Prior to visiting Southern Romania I was most fortunate to sample a few Romanian wines however, I knew little of Romania’s culinary scene. This Spaswinefood enthusiast can not resist indulging in a few new gastronomic experiences. Let's take a look at some of the Blue Window's culinary delights.

Blue Window Restaurant
I discovered that the Blue Window specializes in Mediterranean cuisine. This culinary emphasis is not surprising, given Southern Romania's close proximity to the Mediterranean region.
Lunch at the Blue Window
Our lunch began with bruschetta, humus and eggplant appetizers.

During lunch we were introduced to two excellent wines from Galicea Mare Winery. The Vinul Lui Dinescu (Dinescu's Wines) were a white wine, Tămâioasă Românească and a red wine, Fetească Neagra.

Special thanks to our host, George Wine for introducing us to wines from Crama Galicia Mare. I so loved exploring Romanian wines, made with grapes varieties such as, Tămâioasă Românească and Fetească Neagra.

This Spaswinefood traveller would like to note that restaurants with Blue in its name often lead to memorable dining experience (Yes, I still remember dining at Patio Bleu in Morocco). I also discovered that Romanian cuisine offers a wide range of cuisine influenced by traditions it has come in contact with; yet at the same time the cuisine has maintained a strong Romanian character. Some of Romania's early culinary influences included the ancient Greeks, Romans, Saxons and Turks. Amongst the greatest influences on Romanian cuisine is Ottoman cuisine, and cuisine from nearby countries, such as Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary and Serbia. In an
earlier article I described an earlier dining experience at Epoca.
Blue Window, with its Mediterranean inspired cuisine, is indeed a most delightful place to dine. I
invite you to join me in my travels in Romania and elsewhere at Spaswinefood. Special thanks to Razvan
Stoenescu and George Wine, for being such wonderful hosts during Spaswinefood’s
vine-filled explorations in Romania. Needless to say Romanian food is rather
tasty.
