A #winelover affair with Davino and Serve Wines

What makes Romanian wines special? Perhaps it is spending time with friends. It is hard to imagine a more relaxing evening in Bucharest than spending it with #winelover friends. Our Spaswinefood's Romanian wine affair was coming to an end. Fortunately, our last evening was perfect timing to learn about Davino and Serve wines from the Dealu Mare wine region.

Dealu Mare wineries Serve and Davino are both located in Ceptura, Dealu Mare. Here is a brief overview:

Serve Wines

Serve Wines, Ceptura, Dealu Mare was the first privately owned winery established after the revolution. It was founded in 1994 by Count Guy Tyrel de Poix who recognized the potential of Romanian wines. Besides being the first private winery it is also known for a number first in wines. Serve produced the first dry rosé, and first Romanian Cuvée. Both of these actions put the emphasis on the production of quality wines.

Davino Wines

Davino Wines come from their organically and biodynamically farmed estate in Ceptura, Dealu Mare. The winery was established in 1999. Their flagship red and white wines are blended wines. They also produced single varietal wines from two of Romania's most popular indigenous grapes, Fetească Albă, and Fetească Neagra, which are grown on 35-40 years old vines. Whereas, their Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines are produced from grape vines over 60 years old. Davino also grows Sauvignon Blanc and Welschriesling grapes. Davino's emphasis is on the production of fine wines, and hence their focus is on establishing a benchmark for quality.
Wine Tasting, Crama Domneasca
First on our agenda that evening was a wine tasting of Davino and Serve wines at Crama Domneasca.

I so enjoyed being at the tasting of the above Dealu Mare wines. The Dealu Mare is part of Southern Romania's Muntenia wine regionor as it sometimes described the Muntenia hills (Greater Wallachia). Dealu Mare (Big Hill) Vineyards, one of the best known vineyard areas, stretches for 90 km, from Valea Calugareasca (near Ploiesti) to Merei/Vernestin (near Buzau), covering the counties of Buzau and Prahova. Our earlier #winelover visit to the Dealu Mare wine region included Licorna Winehouse and Domeniile Tohani wineries

Yes, dinner with traditional Romanian food and Dealu Mare wines is impossible to beat. Moreover,  Davino Wines and Serve Wines were great hosts.

Dining Crama Domneasca Style
Wherever we traveled in Southern Romania there was always some tempting food to try. Crama Domneasca was another one of these places. In addition, I could not hep but also notice the inviting place settings and tablecloth designs.

During dinner I enjoyed sampling the delicious appetizers and entrees.

The wine tasting at Crama Domneasca certainly added to the dining experience and my overall appreciation of wines from the Dealu Mare wine region. Evenings like the one I have described, is how special #winelover memories are made. It is hard to beat great food and wine with friends, both old and new friends. After such an amazing tasting of Davino and Serve wines at Crama Domneasca it was onto the official #Winelover Hangout at Corks Cozy Winebar.

Davino and Serve Wines certainly set the stage for an awesome evening of Romanian wines. Next, the #Winelover Hangout in Bucharest , a gathering of locals who love wine, would put the icing on the cake. I would like to give special thanks to Razvan Stoenescu, George Wine, and our Romanian hosts for being such wonderful hosts during Spaswinefood’s vine-filled explorations in Romania. I invite you to join me in my travels in Romania and elsewhere at Spaswinefood
