Dining at Leonardo Ricardo's Studio in San Miguel Deuñas, Guatemala is something we have had the privilege to do this past few years. We have been guests there for a number of gatherings, which are often centered around holidays and special events. Len's studio is filled with paintings and other artist productions (tables, chairs, pottery and more). The studio where he works with his art assistants (Henry and Francisco) is a place where conversations happen around the dining table. It is a place where you can not help but view the art works that surround you. A recent visit was the celebration of the completion of an art project, in this case a table. This San Miguel Deuñas studio is where art, food, wine and conversations blend at the foot of Volcan Feugo.
Art work fills the studio with beautiful colors.
The studio's art work keeps changing, as some works are sold and others are produced. On this occasion we came to celebrate the completion of a new table.
That specific evening we were a group of ten. It was the perfect size for conversations over dinner with wine.
It was an inviting table and so was dinner that evening. Dinner was prepared by Glenda and her team.
Now, let's take a closer peek at dinner.

Later the conversation switched to dessert.
This was our second time having this dessert prepared by the talented Glenda. Beyond feasting amid artistic vibes the experience is the perfect for those foodies seeking comfort foods. Any good chief will tell you it is a team effort. In this case Len, Francisco, and Henry are a part of making this happen. It is indeed a family affair. By the way Glenda is also a talented fabric's artist.
Everyday life in San Miguel Deuñas is where art, culture and conversations blend. Len's studio is a part of that world. Visitors immediately discover some of Guate's uniqueness. It is a place where you are quickly introduced to the fact that Guatemalans love to celebrate holidays and fiestas. Such is the case in the pueblo of San Miguel Dueñas, located near Antigua, Guatemala.
Life Imitates Art and Vice-Versa
San Miguel Deuñas is a place where life imitates art and vice-versa. Perhaps the best example is San Miguel Dueñas Convite that takes place on December 30th.

San Miguel Deuñas Where Art and Culture Blend
Indeed life outside the studio impacts the productions within. Each December 30th in San Miguel Dueñas, Sacatepéquez the conviteros celebrate and pay homage to the Virgin of the New Year. This past two years I have viewed the Convite on Calle Real. The costumed street dance begins shortly after midday. The convite continues through the day and ends at the Palacio Municipal and the San Miguel the Archangel Parish Church around ten at night. Each year "Convite de Mi Pueblo" conviteros dance to loud music and live marimbas.
It is fun to see the conviteros dance to the music, as they moved up and down Calle Real.
After the dance begins the characters immediately come to life.
The red and gold conviteros are soon followed by a male dancing pair who are followed immediately by a female pair.
The dancing continues, with more dancing pairs arriving.
The dancers bring life to the street performance. Finally it is time to take a break. While the dancers rest and enjoy their lunch in the studio it is a great time for photos, and conversations.
