Priceless: Having lunch at Piattelli Vineyards, Salta's Ruta Del Vino

Piattelli Vineyards Cafayate, one of Cafayate's newest wineries, nestled in the foothills of Salta's mountain range, is one of the top Salta's Ruta Del Vino locations for lunch. Piattelli's Cafayate site was definitely designed with enotourism in mind, with a winery restaurant and state of the art bodega. Their restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating options, with the most spectacular valley, mountain and vineyard views. For this Spaswinefood lover to have lunch here was priceless.

As you travel the Camino a Yacochuya (Road to Yacochuya) towards Bodegas Domingo Molina and San Pedro de Yacochuyo, you encounter stunning wine country views. About half way up the hill you will see Piattelli Vineyards. Piattelli Vineyards Cafayate opened in 2013. Yes, they choose their location well.

These days aerial shots of the Piattelli Estate grace the covers of tourist and wine magazines. Piattelli has chosen a perfect location to offer enotourism in Cafayate. It's Cafayate site has vineyard views in all directions. Spaswinefood especially enjoyed dining in their winery's restaurant.

A Piattelli Lunch

While in Cafayate we visited Piattelli twice. The first time we ate lunch. Wine tasting was not available that day so we returned later for a wine tasting. This article will focus on our lunch visit and a future article will discuss the wines.

While the restaurant offers delightful outdoor and indoor seating options for lunch, we choose to dine inside. Had it not been a very hot summer's day in Cafayate, we would have dined outside.

For lunch we ordered the following:

1. Tortilla Española con Ensalada y Vegetales (Spanish Tortilla with Salad and Vegetables)

2. Pollo con Ensalada (Chicken with Salad)

3. Piattelli Vineyards, Reserve Torrontés 2015

Needless to say, our lunch was most delightful with the Torrontés wine.

Before I left the restaurant I just had to take a peek at Piattelli's wines. Fortunately, next day we would return for a wine tasting.

Leaving Piattelli after such a wonderful lunch made my day. It was indeed priceless to have lunch on that summer's day. Yes, it is not surprising that they get good reviews on TripAdvisor. They were awarded the Certificate of Excellence in 2015.

Piattelli Vineyards, at the foot of the Andean Mountains, with such awesome views of the Valles Calchaquíes, is without doubt hard to beat (see video).

Without doubt Cafayate's high desert scrub landscape is quite a stunning contrast against the vineyards. Other Yacochuya wineries that we visited included bodegas San Pedro de Yacochuyo and Domingo Molina. These wineries also have amazing views.

We so enjoyed discovering the special offerings at each winery we visited on Camino a Yacochuya.  Piattelli winery is an area where you will encounter the most scenic vineyard and valley views. In future posts I will write about other discoveries on Salta’s Ruta Del Vino.

Things to do In/Near Cafayate
Besides wine explorations along Cafayate’s Ruta Del Vino just north of Cafayate, on Ruta 68, is a beautiful canyon, Quebrada de Cafayate. We enjoyed exploring the scenic Quebrada de Cafayate. Visitors to Cafayate can also journey north on Ruta 40 to Molinos where you can take a ripio (gravel) road detour to visit Colomé Winery, one of Argentina’s top wineries. Cafayate is known as the Cradle of Folklore . It is also home to indigenous people, the Kallchaki.

Getting to/from Cafayate
Cafayate does not have an airport and is only accessible by car or bus. The shortest route (Ruta 68) is 165 kilometers of winding road from Salta, capital city of Salta Province. Flights to Salta from Buenos Aires and other major cities in Argentina are available on Aerolinas Argentinas and other carriers. It is well worth the effort because Cafayate wineries are delightful to visit. Cafayate wine country offers an excellent range of choices for restaurants and accommodations. While in Cafayate we stayed at Bodega's El Esteco Patios de Cafayatea great place to return to each day after our wine country explorations.

Piattelli Vineyards Cafayate is an absolute must for wine enthusiasts. Cafayate while still relatively unknown is #1 on the list of 2017 Best Wine DestinationsNaturally this Spaswinefood enthusiast looks forward to writing about our Argentine wine country explorations. You can check out my travels in Argentina and elsewhere at Spaswinefood.
