Scenery and gastronomy mix well in San Carlos de Bariloche

San Carlos de Bariloche's natural beauty draws visitors from around the world. While most come for the scenery, and/or the skiing some come for other reasons. During our Spaswinefood visit to Bariloche we enjoyed the scenic vistas while checking out the local gastronomic scene. Bariloche has a wide range of restaurants; so this requires a little research to find the best places for your needs.

During our week in Bariloche we explored a number of restaurants both in the downtown and the surrounding area. Whether it is lunch or dinner dining in Bariloche is a leisurely affair. Fortunately for those of us preferring to take advantage of social media, there are some online sources that can help. I will start first with some of those in town discoveries.

Downtown Bariloche

Alto El Fuego
This cozy, quaint restaurant is ranked as one of the best in town. If you are looking for Argentine parrilla (barbecue) here you will find steak and other barbecued meats featured on their menu. Since the restaurant  is very busy in the evenings we went for lunch.

During the summer you can dine on the patio or inside.

We enjoyed having lunch at Alto El Feugo.

If you like parrilla put this restaurant on your list.

For wine we choose a Bousquet Malbec. This was a great reminder of our earlier visit to Domaine Bousquet in Mendoza.

Alto El Fuego was a lovely place for lunch on a summer afternoon. The only downside is that vegetarians will find the selection very limited here.

Familia Weiss

Familia Weiss is a traditional restaurant with a great view of the lake.

During our visit we ordered pasta and stew dishes.

Other in town restaurants that come highly recommended include La Salamander Pulperia, El Boriche de Alberto, Il Gabbiano, and La Casita.

If you are looking for casual dining options in town then consider Cerveceria Manush (best beer place with food) and La Fonda de Tio ( Italian, Argentine and vegetarian friendly food at fair prices).

Outside Bariloche

As you leave town there are many scenic restaurant stops on Lake Nahuel Huapi, such as La Playa.

Whether you are staying in town or outside Bariloche it is a place that compels you to explore. San Carlos de Bariloche is an amazing place, which is well known for its scenic vistas.

Punto Panorámico

During our Bariloche stay we dropped by Punto Panorámico Mirador & Bar for lunch. This restaurant tops the list for a casual dining spot. It has one of the most spectacular views that you will encounter in Argentina. Punto Panorámico (Panoramic Point), just as its name suggests, is indeed the most scenic spot for a glass of Patagonia wine. From this iconic Bariloche viewpoint you get stunning views of the historic Llao Llao Hotel, Nahuel Huapi and Moreno lakes, the islands, and the mountain ranges. An highlight was our visit to Punto Panorámico Mirador & Bar.

Punto Panorámico mirador (viewpoint) is a must on the Circuit Chico drive around the Llao Llao Peninsula. Indeed what a place it was for lunch on that beautiful summer’s day. Punto Panorámico offers great menu choices for small restaurant. It you are looking for tasty, fresh cooked food then this restaurant is the place. Moreover, it is impossible to beat this setting for a glass of wine. In fact on the way into the restaurant I recognized Bodega del Fin del Mundo wine barrels.

So naturally, I was tempted to order Bodega del Fin del Mundo wine. We decided on a Bodega del Fin Del Mundo, Extra Brut Pinot Noir - Chardonnay NV. Besides bubbles not only goes well with great views but also pairs well with many foods.

Sitting there with a Patagonia wine from a winery that we discovered years ago was priceless.

The restaurant also serves breakfast and dinner. I have read that the coffee is good. I cannot imagine a more scenic spot for breakfast.

Another trip around Circuit Chico we stopped for lunch at another restaurant.

That day we ordered pasta for our main courses. Pasta is usually a good option in Argentina.

Other highly recommended restaurants outside Bariloche include
Butterfly, Almazen de Sabores, Las Morrillas, and Stag.

The Casual Foodie Side of Bariloche
Of course there are those casual moments when you drop by a bakery to pickup a sandwich, or some sweets. You might also want to pickup some media lunas (Argentine version of a croissant) for breakfast.

It is hard to resist not having empanadas during a Bariloche stay. While in town we dropped La 10 Empanadas to pickup some.

Do not forget to visit the ice cream parlors because Bariloche has some of the best ice cream in the world.

Bariloche also has awesome chocolate!!  There is no shortage of chocolate shops throughout the area.

While in town we could not resist trying chocolate dessert and hot chocolate at one of the many restaurants at one of the larger chocolate shops.

Remembering Bariloche
Summer days in Bariloche are special.

Summer is a perfect time for picnics by the lake.

We brought some Norton and El Esteco wines with us to Bariloche to enjoy. Earlier at Bodega Norton we tasted Malbec 2012 wines produced from parcels within three different single vineyards.

Bariloche is a fun place to wake up each day. During our week in Bariloche we stayed at Hotel Dut Bariloche. Each day we enjoyed viewing the sun rise and set over the nearby mountains.

During an earlier visit to Bariloche we stayed in the Club Hotel Cerro Catedral area near the ski slopes.

On one of those drives around Lake Nahuel Huapi we stopped a Puerto Petunia for lunch. It brought back memories of our first visit to Bariloche.

I often think back to that wonderful time many years ago in Bariloche. I so much miss the Argentine warmth. Thanks for the memories!

If you do a little research then scenic Bariloche can also be a gastronomic adventure as well. The Bariloche area draws visitors from around the world and so our return to Bariloche was the perfect opportunity to revisit the Spaswinefood  sceneI invite you to join me in my travels in Argentina and elsewhere in search of the best in Spaswinefood.
