My thoughts these days are focused on those first introductions to Hungarian wines. Last November I traveled to Budapest to join friends at a #winelover hangout. Arriving a few days early meant, I could explore Hungarian wines. My first stop was at Tasting Table Budapest. After our #winelover hangout, I traveled onto the Rovinhud Wine Show in Timisoara, Romania. While at the wine show I attended a master class on Hungarian Furmint wines. These vine-filled adventures led to the blossoming of an Hungarian wine affair. Need I say more!
I will share three vignettes from these events, which kicked off my Budapest to Bucharest adventure.

1. Tasting Table Budapest
The magical city of Budapest is a wonderful place to begin explorations of Hungarian wines. In fact one of the best places to start is the Tasting Table Budapest.
During my Budapest stay I attended two events organized by the Tasting Table Budapest. The first evening I was introduced to five Hungarian wines.
These five wines included:
1). Kreinbacher Winery, Brut Classic Sparkling NV
2). Szászi Winery, Keknyelu 2016
3). Jackfall Winery, Grand 2019
4). Posta Winery, Kadarka 2015
5). Royal Tokaji Winery, 5 Puttonyos Aszú 2009
Yes, it was an exciting lineup of Hungarian wines (a sparkling wine, dry white wine, two red wines and a sweet wine).
The first tasting introduced me to three different styles of wines made with Furmint, a white Hungarian grape variety. They were: a sparkling wine (Kreinbacher Winery, Brut Classic Sparkling NV); a dry white (Szászi Winery, Keknyelu 2016); and, a sweet wine, Tokaji Aszú (Royal Tokaji Winery, 5 Puttonyos Aszú 2009). Yes, it was an exciting lineup of Hungarian wines (a sparkling wine, dry white wine, two red wines and a sweet wine).

The next day I took a food tour. It was another opportunity for me to learn more about Hungarian wines. After the food tour I ended up back at the Tasting Table Budapest. This time I tasted three more Hungarian wines.
The second tasting also included two Furmint wines, a dry and a sweet, plus a red wine.
2. Budapest #Winelover Hangout
It was a November evening, a magical evening, in Budapest with #winelover friends. It would be the perfect ending to my brief stay in that beautiful city. Whenever the #winelover community comes together it is a time for old and new #winelover friends to share their passion for wine. Let’s take a look at that special #winelover evening in Budapest at St. Andrea Wine and Gourmet Bar, and St. Andrea Wine and Skybar.

Our #winelover hangout began with dinner at St. Andrea Wine and Gourmet Bar, Bajcsy-Zsilinszku ut 78, Budapest 1055. It was a six course meal paired with Hungarian wines. All of the dishes were beautifully created, and excellently paired with St. Andrea Vineyard wines.

Later we dropped by their skybar.
The view of Budapest is quite amazing from the skybar. Even on a cold November evening there were guests outside enjoying the night view of Budapest.
After observing the view, we took a table inside where we explored a few more Hungarian wines.
All too soon it was time to return to my hotel. I took a rickshaw ride back.
2). St. Andrea Wine and Skybar
St. Andrea Wine and Skybar at Deák Ferenc utca 5, (Váci 1. Office Building Rooftop), 1052 Budapest is a must.

3. Rovinhud Conference
Next day I traveled onto the Rovinhud Wine Show in Timisoara, Romania. During the conference I attended a master class on Furmint wines. We tasted Furmint wines from Barta Winery, Mád, Hungary.
During the class Furmint wines produced in a variety of styles, ranging from bone dry to extremely sweet, were discussed. Wine highlights from this Rovinhud Wine Show presentation included:
