Rovinhud Wine Show: For heroes of good taste

Indeed it is not too early for me to start promoting the 2018 Rovinhud Wine Show on November 16-18 in Timisoara, Romania. The Rovinhud Wine Show began in 2014 to promote "quality wines, creating a space where we can learn about wines directly from their creators and from recognized and appreciated specialists from home and abroad.I was most fortunate to attend the show last November 17-19, 2017 in Timisoara, Romania. Rovinhud is an excellent model of how the wine industry, and other industries can help people with disabilities. The wine show is not just a fund raising event, but also it addresses prejudices and attitudes towards people with disabilities. This is an event for heroes of good taste.

What is Special about the Rovinhud Wine Show?
The organizer's goal is "We would very much like that exhibitors, visitors and specialists to return home with a different view of wine and life, leaving behind some of the prejudices and changing their attitude towards people with disabilities. All volunteers involved in the event - from wine coolers porters to the master classes attendees - share this common goal and do it with care and diligence to the benefit of people with disabilities from the self-advocacy “Ceva de Spus” (“Something to Say”) Association." The 2017 show included exhibitors and master classes. An article by Lilla Osolya, Wines of Hungary UK provides a description of what happened at the show.

To give you an idea of Rovinhud promotes wine culture and social responsibility here are some highlights from the show.

Wines with Personality

The first master class I attended was given by #Winerlover  Luiz Alberto. Luiz Alberto selected wines from around the world that showcase personality.

Wines with personality are those special wines that you will always remember.

Beyond Prosecco
First, I must admit to being a Prosecco lover. Bruno & Daniele Bortolotti obviously had my attention when they presented.

Barta Winery Furmints
A master's class on Furmint given by Barta Winery was at the top on my agenda, as I wanted to learn more about Hungarian Furmint wines.

During the class Furmint wines produced in a variety of styles, ranging from bone dry to extremely sweet, were discussed.

Oregon Pinot Noirs
Christine Havens's session on Oregon Pinot Noir wines was the perfect opportunity for me to get a more in-depth understanding of New World wines closer to home.

Havens also added a few Pinot Noirs from the Old World to push our thinking. It was a blind tasting, which contributed to audience engagement.

Cabernet Sauvignons Around the World
The Cabernet Sauvignon wines from around the world session given by Patrick Farrell MW caught my attention.

Learning the general characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon from different wine regions around the world was quite insightful.

Reds of Tuscany
A session on Tuscany's red wines by Imre Szakacs-Orha was a great reminder to me of the diversity of red wines from this wine region.

More on the Rovinhud Wine Show
I learnt so much from the master classes that I attended. Over the three days I also visited the wine exhibitions, and a local winery. What was so special about all the Rovinhud activities was the opportunity to connect with #winbelover friends and to meet new ones.

Crama Stirbey
It is always a delight to taste Crama Stirbey wines. In 2001 Prince Stirbey's granddaughter, Baroness Ilena Kripp-Costinescu and her husband Jakob Kripp began the process to re-establish the family's wine estate. Her grandfather, Prince Stirbey was one of the most significant people in Dragasani's viticultural history. Their family vineyards date back over 300 years.

Corcova Winery
Meeting the representatives from Corcova Winery was a delight. Learning about their wines further added to my knowledge of Romanian wines.

Bella Geza Winery
I especially enjoyed dinner at Bella Geza, one of the local wineries. Here we were introduced to their wines over a dinner with local cuisine.

I do believe that Rovinhud Wine Show is a model of how the wine industry, and other industries can  help change prejudices and attitudes towards people with disabilities. This is an event for heroes of good taste.

I was most fortunate to attend the Rovinhud Wine Show, as part of my Spaswinefood Budapest to Bucharest adventures. I would like to give special thanks to Szövérdfi-Szép Zoltán, Ceva de Spus Association, and the Rovinhud Wine Show for being such wonderful hosts during my Timisoara visit. After the Rovinhud Conference I continued wine country explorations on the #Winelover Olentia Wine Country Tour. I invite you to join me in my travels in Romania and elsewhere at Spaswinefood
