Champagne moments are a very special part of our life experiences. Today it is the wine of celebration for many occasions. Undoubtedly, it was not surprise when #winelovers gathered in the Mosel Valley recently, that there were a few occasions for Champagne. Two Champagne events happened over breakfast at Staffelter Hof, Kröv. One Champagne event was an extension of our BYOB from the evening before. The other was that very special May birthday to celebrate. Naturally, a #winelover birthday celebration, not only calls for some bubbly, but also cake and dessert wines. Yes, there was Mosel Riesling too, of course. After all, we had come to the Mosel Valley for the 3rd Annual #Winelover Riesling Marathon.

The use of Champagne to mark special occasions is a tradition, dating back to the the royal courts of Europe in the 1700's. By the late 19th century it became popular to mark special occasions. Let's checkout those Champagne Moments at our #winelover gathering.
Pinot Muenier for Breakfast
The morning after the BYOB we shared two Champagne wines at breakfast.

My friend and I brought Pinot Meunier Champagne to share. This was an easy decision, given we had arrived in the Mosel Valley, after spending a week in Champagne. We brought with us two Pinot Muenier Champagnes, a Louis Casters and a Piot-Sévillano.

Obviously Pinot Meunier Champagne was the focus for the sharing here. I were much enjoyed getting to know these two Champagnes made with 100% Pinot Meunier. Pinot Meunier is one of the three grapes (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier) used in the making of Champagne.
Sharing these Champagnes brought back memories of earlier visits.

The Champagne Gaudinat-Boivin Millésime 2012 was excellent. This Champagne is a blend of the three grapes (20% Pinot Meunier, 40% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir) harvested in 2012, bottled March 2013, and disgorged in 2017. This was my second time celebrating Serban's birthday at a #winelover gathering. Last year during our #winelover gathering in Thrace, Greece we also celebrated his birthday.
Yes, these delightful breakfasts at Staffelter Hof were indeed priceless. After breakfast each day we were off exploring Mosel Riesling at the Mythos Mosel annual wine tasting event. Our 3rd Annual #Winelover Riesling Marathon, just happened to coincide with the Mythos Mosel held May 26-27, 2018

When we returned the second day there was a gala dinner. The perfect ending to a birthday celebration, and a gala dinner is always something sweet. These are the sweet wine moments of life.
