Taking in the downtown Eugene skyline views from the rooftop of the Godon Hotel, while toasting with Capitello Wines, was the perfect ending to our South Willamette Valley vine-filled explorations. Our tour's last stop was the Fifth Street Public Market's newly opened Gordon Hotel. We were one of the first groups to ever toast on the rooftop where a new restaurant was slated to open later. Ray Walsh, winemaker and owner of Capitello Winery, was on hand to share a few of his wines. Yes, before our group began our journeys home there was a sparkling toast. Spaswinefood welcomed this opportunity to sample Capitello Wines on our Wine Media Conference #WMC21 South Willamette Valley post-conference excursion.

When we arrived back in Eugene we concluded our wine country tour at the newly opened Gordon Hotel.
Just imagine we were one of the first groups to toast on the rooftop of the Gordon Hotel. Here Ray Walsh shared a few of his wines. Of course we began with a sparkling wine toast.
There were a few more Capitello wines to sample.

After the most delightful introduction to Capitello Wines and the Gordon Hotel, many of us would continue to explore Eugene's wine and food scene. You will find that in Eugene that there are a number of urban wineries, like Capitello to visit. The food scene is also exciting. Some of the dining suggestions include Marche in the market area, the eclectic Whiteaker Neighborhood favorites, such as Tacovore or Izakaya Meiji, or dining at George + Violet's or Tavern on Main in downtown Springfield.
It is hard to beat those roof top views with a glass of Capitello wine. We would highly recommend that you visit the 5th Street Rooftop at the Gordon Hotel. You might also checkout Capitello's flight offerings at their tasting room on Chamelton Street. Their most popular Oregon vs. New Zealand flight, allows you to compare Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Noirs from both the Willamette Valley and winemaker Ray’s native New Zealand.

For sure we were treated to South Willamette Valley Wine Country at its best. Wine country visitors soon discover there is so much to do in and around Eugene. Special thanks to Jessica Thomas, General Manager of Sweet Cheeks Winery for her leadership in arranging this tour. We would also like to thank Sarah (Sally) Murdock (Oregon Wine Board) and Stephen Hoshau (Travel Lane County). For a complete list of South Willamette Valley wineries see Southern Willamette Valley Wineries Association. We invite you to join us in our Oregon wine country travels and elsewhere in search of the best in Spaswinefood.
