Live Wine Social: Red wines in the glass

When our 2021 Wine Media Conference (Wine Summer Camp) #WMC21 met in Eugene, Oregon  Spaswinefood was there. The Live Wine Social is the conference's signature event, that includes two live blogging sessions. Conference attendees sit at round tables as winemakers and winery reps circle around the room, pour wines and talk about them, while we tweet and post on social media  “live” and in real time. Let's take a look at some of the red wines featured at one of the sessions during the recent Wine Media Conference's Live Wine Social.

Each participating winery pours one wine for a table of attendees. Bloggers, writers, and influencers taste, analyze, and write about the wine or winery on the spot. Wineries then move to a new table in a speed-dating format. Live Wine Social is one of the highlights that I look forward to each year.  Imagine if you combined speed dating and wine tasting then that’s Live Wine SocialThis year included red wines from Troon Vineyard, Pfeiffer Vineyard, Brooks Wines, and Knotty Vines.

1. Troon Vineyard

Oregon's Troon Vineyard has a long history of sharing their wines at the wine media conference. I always look forward to discovering their latest wines. This year they shared a

Troon Vineyard is focused on naturally crafted creative wines using a minimalist and biodynamic approach. They are CCOF Organic Certified, and Demeter Certified Biodynamic. This 2019 estate grown Siskiyou Syrah gets its name from the mountains that surround the vineyard. Herbs and pepper on the nose, with delicious fruit and black pepper on the palate. This Kubli Bench  Troon Vineyard wine is typical of wines with a sense of place. I would also dd that wine making style has a great influence as well.

2. Pfeiffer Vineyard

Pfeiffer Vineyard owners were on hand to introduce their Pinot Noir wine. Danuta and Robin Pfeiffer also shared a brief history of their winery.

Pfeiffer Winery is known for their exclusive, small lot, estate grown Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris wines. These wines are only sold at the winery. They also supply grapes to King Estate.

3. Brooks Wines

Brooks Wine founded in 1998 is one of Willamette Valley's top wineries. Brooks is a biodynamic winery renowned for producing world-class Pinot Noir and Riesling. I tasted a Brooks Estate Vineyard, Rastaban Pinot Noir, Eola-Amity Hills 2017.

This Pinot Noir was an absolute delight. Perhaps not a surprise given Brooks Wine, along with other Oregon wineries have earned a spot on Wine & Spirits magazine’s prestigious annual Top 100 Wineries list for 2019. Wineries on the 2019 list were selected based on “their performance in the magazine’s two-step blind-tasting process and celebrated for their exceptional wines,” according to the magazine’s website. It has been recognized as an outstanding producer of Pinot Noir and Riesling.

4. Knotty Vines

Knotty Vines, a Rodney Strong brand, was launched on September 1, 2020. The brand targets older millennials and gen-x wine consumers.

Some describe the Cabernet Sauvignon as being indulgent because of its playful silky tannins, with notes of chocolate and blackberries.

During #WMC21 besides this Knotty Vines Cabernet Sauvignon I tasted other  Knotty Vines wines during the conference. Knotty Vines goal is to tap into the energetic, daring spirit of modern-day experience seekers, by giving them permission to indulge and create everyday emotional connections. This brand offers 2018 vintages of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Red Blend. Their Chardonnay is described as flaunting vibrant peach, green apple, and tropical notes; the Pinot Noir as dark and sumptuous with rich flavors of black cherry, vanilla and oak; the  Cabernet Sauvignon as packed with chocolate and blackberries with playful silky tannins; and the Red Blend (Merlot, Malbec, Zinfandel and Petit Verdot) as ripe plum, coffee, black cherry and chocolate flavors and a rich, smooth finish.

For sure tasting these Oregon (Troon Vineyard, PfeifferBrooks Wine) and a California ( Rodney Strong Knotty Vine) red wines was very engaging experience. Our annual Wine Media Conference (or as some like to call it Wine Summer Camp) #WMC21 was so much fun. Live blogging was a great introduction to these red wines. We invite you to join us in our travels in Oregon wine country and elsewhere at Spaswinefood.
