Check out Vancouver's Street Food Movement

Vancouver has always been a special city for me. I lived there while I was in graduate school at University British Columbia. Every time I return to Vancouver it is like coming home. It is great to see that Vancouver is all a twitter over getting its street food carts/trucks up and running. Vancouver is joining other North American cities (Portland, Los Angeles) in what Roaming Hunger as described as the street food movement.  After the popularity of street food carts at the 2010 Olympics the city of Vancouver was ready. Vancouver always had street carts selling things like hot dogs, chestnuts and popcorn. Now the food carts on the streets of Vancouver are selling exciting good food.

Vancouver Sun (November 20, 2010) entrée section article Dining a la street cart  by Mia Stainsby, discussed the arrival on street food carts and trucks in Vancouver. The Inside Vancouver Blog also reports on the street food cart scene. If you wants details on specific food carts and locations you will find it at VancouverStreeteats.

I have always enjoyed street food culture as I have traveled. On a recent trip to Cartagena, Colombia I shot the below photo from my hotel window.

Congratulations Vancouver you are adding a unique piece to the culinary landscape!! I invite you to join me in my travels in British Columbia and elsewhere at Spaswinefood, or you can visit my travel column at the Examiner

  1. Hi Sharon,
Street food is growning up popularity in Vancouver. I can't wait for the spring when the city is allowing for up to 60 carts (up from 17 now) !
