In my continued search for great food I visited the California Cafe in Historic Old Town, Los Gatos for brunch on December 5, 21010. While we have visited the restaurant in the past it was great to return. This time a friend joined us for brunch.

The California Cafe has a great location near Los Gatos Creek and the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Based on reviews from three sources California Cafe gets four and half stars from Yelp's (392 reviewers), four stars from Open Table's (188 reviewers), and four stars from Silicon Valley City Search's (14 reviewers). During my research I also discovered a December 2009 youtube video of a cooking demo by California Cafe's Chief Taylor.
When I visited the California Cafe had beautiful poinsettias throughout the restaurant. There were also a number of groups there for festive and birthday celebrations. The California Cafe is the perfect setting for group celebrations and events.

For Sunday brunch we had many choices from an extensive menu. That day we ordered Eggs Benedict and a Mushroom Omelet.

In addition to a great menu the California Cafe has an excellent beverage and wine selection. We chose to order a bottle of champagne.

The Sunday we visited, service was excellent even though they were quite busy with a number of large groups. My Mushroom Omelet was great. My companions, however, both agreed that they would have preferred their Eggs Benedict not served on a scone. If you like to take advantage of the view you should request a table by the window. I would agree with the overall four star rating. Open table has also recognized the California Cafe as a Diners' Choice Winner. In the past, the California Cafe has had some famous visitors such as President Clinton and other celebrities.
