There are a number of wonderful eateries near San José State University where I worked as an academic before my life as a blogger. One of my favorites is the Naglee Park Garage. The Garage, as it is locally known is located at 505 East San Carlos.

During a recent visit to San José I took a trip down memory lane, and had dinner at the Garage. John and Elizabeth ordered the beef special.

On this visit, as on previous visits the Garage always has vegetarian options on the menu. I ordered a portobello burger for dinner. Both meals we ordered were quite tasty. I even tasted the mashed potatoes. You can tell they were homemade!!

Needless to say we all enjoyed our dinner at the Garage. There is always a welcoming atmosphere and service is good. It has both indoor and outside dining space. Reviews of the Garage on Yelp and Urbanspoon are good.
Guy Fieri of the National Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives featured the Garage as part of the Comfort Food Classics.
In addition to the wonderful comfort foods at the Garage it does have an o.k. selection of wine. So if you feel the urge for some great comfort food then check out the Naglee Park Garage. I invite you to join me in my travels in California and elsewhere at Spaswinefood, or you can visit my travel column at the Examiner.
