The California desert near Palm Springs offers much to explore. In fact not far from Palm Springs, at the foothills of Joshua Tree National Park is the spa town of Desert Hot Springs.

What makes Desert Hot Springs unique is that beneath the town is one of the finest hot mineral water aquifers in the world. This aquifer supplies hot mineral water to Desert Hot Springs spas and hot spring resorts. Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce website provides a list of over 20 spas and hot spring resorts in Desert Hot Springs. Tripadvisor provides useful reviews of these spa and hot spring resorts.
Driving towards Desert Hot Springs from Palm Springs, I encountered makers for a scenic route on Dillion Road. I followed this road for several miles.

One thing I noticed while driving this scenic route was a number of resorts, such as Caliente Springs/Sky Valley Hot Springs Resort.

Further along Dillion Road I saw advertisements for Sam's Family Spa. Sam's Family Spa is a hot water resort for families.

I have visited Sam's a number of times in the past. Their therapeutic pools are feed by underground well waters. These waters come from three wells 265-300 feet deep, with temperatures between 105-140 degrees.
Drive further and you will find a desert setting.
