Carmel Valley is the perfect Spaswinefood escape. In my pre-Spaswinefood days we would often retreat to the Carmel Valley. We would stay at a small pet friendly resort and walk to the village. What is so appealing about Carmel Valley Village is that it is home to wine tasting rooms and restaurants. One of my favorite tasting rooms in the valley is Heller Estate Organic Vineyards. What is special about Heller Estate is that it is a USDA certified organic winery.

The Heller Estate Organic Vineyards Tasting Room is located at 68 West Carmel Valley Road. Just to the side of the tasting room you will find a garden area with sculptures that is just perfect for a picnic, or a glass of wine. The Dances on Your Palette 15 foot sculpture, near the entrance to the garden, has also been artistically interpreted for Heller Estates wine labels.

What is so special about Heller Estate Organic Vineyards wines? Well, some say it dances on your palette. You can check reviews at Snooth, Tripadvisor and Yelp.
Heller Estate's history pre-dates the establishment of the Carmel Valley Appellation (AVA), which was granted in 1983. However, there is a long tradition of wine production in the Carmel Valley, with vineyards in the area dating back to the 1800's. Carmel valley has less than 300 acres under cultivation. The valley is especially well known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which makes up 70% of the wine production. Bordeaux grape varietals are the most common, with recent introduction of Burgundian varietals.

In addition to Heller Estates wine lovers visiting Carmel Valley can also do wine tasting in Carmel, or they can check out other Carmel Valley tasting rooms. The picturesque road through the Carmel Valley is just perfect for a leisurely exploration of the valley's wineries and tasting rooms. If you prefer not to drive wine tours are available. There is even a wine bus, grapevine express, Route #24. For a complete list See Monterey lists of wineries and tasting rooms see also CrazyAboutWine.
