Suvla Wines are something to tweet about

Suvla's SUR wine got the attention of wine bloggers at the #EWBC Gala Banquet. There were many tweets praising SUR.  As I sat there at the banquet I was not surprised to see such great reviews. Earlier we had visited Suvla Winery and tasted their wines. SUR, a blend (50% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot) was one of my favorites amongst the wines I tasted. Sitting there at the banquet I could still remember the beautiful stone house in Suvla's Bozokbağ Vineyards.

Suvla Winery
Suvla Winery is new boutique winery in Thrace. The winery is located in Eceabat on the historical Gallipoli Peninsula. An Harper's article discusses the unique micro climate on the Gallipoli Peninsula. When we visited Suvla we toured the winery, 80 hectare vineyard, tasted wines and ate a wonderful dinner at the winery. Suvla's vineyard was established in 2003, followed by the winery being established in 2009. By 2012 the winery was producing 19 labels of whites, roses and reds in different wine series (Kabatepe, Suvla, Suvla Reserve and Suvla Grand Reserve).

Selim Zafer Ellialti, the owner of Suvla spent the day with us. Both him and his wife were wonderful hosts, as was their staff. It was such a delight to spend time at this winery.

The wines from this young winery have already received awards. Winemaker Dimitar Dimov and his team, working in conjunction with French consultants (Jacques Antoine Toublanc, Charles Emmanuel Girard and Francis Poirel), are producing amazing wines for a young winery. Suvla is a GAP (Good Agriculture Practice) certified winery.
