Time for wine and tapas in Mijas, Málaga

Last week was a perfect opportunity to visit the picturesque village of Mijas, Málaga.  The pueblo of Mijas, known as “The White City” is a perfect spaswinefood escape.

Wine Time in Mijas
In Mijas our first stop was the Mijas Wine Museum (Museo del Vino de Mijas). For a #winelover no visit to the province of Málaga, Spain is complete without checking out the wines.

Before visiting Mijas wine museum I had read Spanish Wines  description of Málaga’s wine history. I had also discovered that Málaga and Sierras de Málaga are the two Spanish Denominaciones de Origen (DO) in the province of Málaga. Wine-Searcher notes that the Málaga DO was established in 1933 and the Sierras de Málaga DO in 2001.

The Mijas Wine Museum is a perfect place to sample wines.  It was a special treat to be introduced to some of the wines from Málaga and Sierras de Málaga. In particular,  it was especially exciting to taste wines produced from the Moscatel and Pedro Ximénez grapes. Yes, we tasted wines from other grape varietals and a few wines from other wine regions of Spain. Tasting and learning about wines while in a wine region is always special.

Mijas wine time is also just perfect for checking out the local tapas. You guessed it, wine tasting at the museum includes tapas.
