It was spring time and Spaswinefood had come to check out wineries near Healdsburg. We were so delighted to discover Dutcher Crossing Winery during our visit to Dry Creek Valley Wine Region. Dutcher Crossing Winery's proprietor, Debra Mathay's passion for wine began in her teens. Her dream of owning a winery soon become a quest. Later, with her father's guidance, she began the journey that led to the acquisition of Dutcher Crossing Winery in 2008. Mathay brings that same drive and enthusiastic vision to wine making at Dutcher Crossing Winery. She shares this vision with the wine making team of Kerry Damesky (winemaker), Nick Briggs (assistant winemaker) and Matt Ward (winemaker's assistant). Dutcher Crossing Winery handcrafted wines are made in small open-top fermenting tanks. The wines are given the close attention needed to bring out the very best in each varietal (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Port and Zinfandel). All the wines are then aged in American, French or European oak barrels until ready for bottling.
