Ktima Pavlidis on the wine route of Dionysus

Five days earlier we began our wine safari travels on the wine roads of Northern Greece. Now, here we were at Ktima Pavlidis in Kokkinogia, Drama, the final stop on our wine adventureKtima Pavlidis winery is located on The Wine Route of Dionysus, just 17 kilometers west of Drama. The winery is in a narrow valley at the foothills of Mount Falako. In ancient times the area was an epicenter for Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. Obviously winemaking at Ktima Pavlidis plays an important role in PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) Drama, one of Greece's most modern wine regions. Although this PGI Drama winery specializes in international grape varieties you will also find indigenous Greek varieties, such as Assyrtiko and Agiorgitiko.

The winery was founded in 1998 by Christoforos Pavlidis. Ktima Pavlidis's emphasis is on producing premium wines. Both indigenous and international grape varieties are grown in their two estate vineyards, Kokkinogia and Perichora. The winery is located at the north side of the Kokkinogia vineyard.

Upon arrival at Ktima Pavlidis we first toured the winery. This modern winery uses both cutting edge viticultural practices and state-of-the-art technology in their wine production process.

Our last stop on the tour was the tasting room, which is located at the center of the underground cellar. From the tasting room you have amazing views into the cellar. What a great setting for wine tasting.

After a delightful wine tasting at Ktima Pavlidis we ate lunch. Before leaving Ktima Pavlidis we posed for a group photo. It was indeed special to share this experience with fellow wine bloggers and our Greek hosts.

After lunch we drove from Kokkinogia, Drama to Plovdiv, Bulgaria to participate in the Digital Wine Communications Conference (#dwcc15). Our wine safari through Northern Greece was absolutely outstanding. Travellers on Northern Greece's wine road will soon discover: 1) Why Greek wine is not just any wine? 2) Why Greek wine country travel is steeped in myths and culinary traditions? and 3) Why Greek hospitality is so amazing.

After this wine safari on the Wine Roads of Northern Greece I just know there will be a Greek wine goddess/god calling me back to Greece soon.  Spaswinefood is so looking forward to future explorations in Greece. Our wine safari was indeed an action-packed, seaside to mountaintop visit to Northern Greece wineries. I invite you to join me in my travels in Greece and elsewhere at Spaswinefood, or visit my travel column at the Examiner.
