Gala evening at Weingut Dr. Melsheimer

We celebrated the completion of the 3rd Annual #Winelover Riesling Marathon with a gala dinner. It was the perfect ending to a Riesling Marathon in the Mosel Valley. Both on Day One, and Day Two of the Mythos Mosel, we explored one of Germany's most beautiful river valleys, where some of the best Riesling in the world is grownOur second day concluded with a #winelover dinner at Weingut Dr. Melsheimer's Restaurant Graifen. From my perspective at two exciting things happened that evening: (1) an awesome dinner Restaurant Graifen with great conversations, and (2) an introduction to Dr. Melsheimer wines.

On that second day after breakfast we're back on the road, visiting more Mosel Valley wineries. When our #winelover program officially ended, we returned to Staffelter Hof, Kröv.

Soon we were off to a gala dinner at a restaurant nearby. I recognized the Ecovin sign when we arrived at Weingut Dr. Melsheimer. Ecovin is the German Organic Viticultural Association, of which I assume that Weingut Dr. Melsheimer is a member.

As we walked towards the entrance we passed outside tables in a garden area.

We soon gathered around a large table at Restaurant Graifen for dinner.

Yes, sharing heartfelt conversations around the table always happens at #winelover gatherings. It is always a good time for me to capture some photogenic memories.

But of course capturing those memories is a #winelover community thing that we always do.

It was the most delicious dinner with Dr. Melsheimer wines. These are Riesling wines that are made in a more old world style.

Here is a closer look at a few of the dishes we enjoyed at Restaurant Graifen.

The kitchen focus for Graifen is on local, fresh produce. I loved the pasta dish I had for dinner. It is hard to beat homemade pasta with fresh ingredients.

Some Weingut Dr. Melsheimer 2015 Rieslings were amongst the wines we enjoyed.

There were also some Staffelter Hof and Romanian wines shared that evening. From my research I have discovered that Reece Hornibook is the winemaker at Weingut Dr. Melsheimer. He moved to the Mosel from Australia with his German wife. They now manage the restaurant and the winery at Weingut Dr. Melsheimer. Regrettably, I did not meet them nevertheless, I have since discovered Reece's blog. Yes, there was even some vineyard surfing in the Mosel these days.

Our awesome gala dinner at Weingut Dr. Melsheimer, was a bitter/sweet experience, for next day we would leave the Mosel Valley. Yes, it was time to leave behind, all of those Mythos Mosel happenings, and move on.

After our gala dinner at Weingut Dr. Melsheimer we would return to Staffelter Hof, where we conclude the evening with some special wines. When we left Germany the next morning, I left with the most wonderful memories of the Mosel Valley. Indeed our #winelover gathering in the Mosel Valley was so very special. Key to the success of our Mosel Valley vine-filled adventure, was our wonderful host, Jan Matthias Klein and his family at Weingut Staffelter Hof. I invite you to join me in my travels in the Mosel Valley, Germany and elsewhere at Spaswinefood.
