Domaine Drouhin Oregon describes itself as having a "French Soul, Oregon Soil". Their 225-acre estate was established in 1988 in the Dundee Hills by the well known Burgundy producer Maison Joseph Drouhin. Today their gravity flow winery produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which have consistently received international recognition. Their wines are hand-crafted by fourth generation winemaker, Véronique Drouhin-Boss. Both Domaine Drouhin's winery and the estate vineyard are LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) Certified, Oregon's Certified
Sustainable program. During an August visit to Oregon wine country I dropped by for a wine tasting.
The Wine Spectator recently noted that Domaine Drouhin has purchased more property in the Willamette Valley's Eola-Amity Hills AVA:
"Domaine Drouhin has essentially doubled its estate vineyard holdings in Oregon with the purchase of picturesque Roserock, a 279-acre property in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills AVA overlooking Salem, the state capital. The vineyard includes 122 planted acres (111 to Pinot Noir, 11 to Chardonnay) and an additional 80 plantable acres.
When you arrive at their Dundee Hills winery you cannot help but be impressed by their estate vineyard.
It looks like others have also discovered something special about Oregon's Willamette Valley for making wine. The
striking similarity between Oregon’s Willamette Valley and Burgundy has led a
number of other Burgundian wine icons to set up wineries. Recently prestigious names,
like Louis Jadot, Liger-Belair and Meo-Camuzet have joined Joseph Drouhin in Oregon.
Wine Tasting at Domaine Drouhin
Needless to say, I was excited to taste Domaine Drouhin's wines. In fact The Oregonian in November 2012 named Domaine Drouhin as Oregon’s Best Winery for Tastings. During my visit to Domaine Drouhin I tasted the following wines:
1. Domaine Drouhin Oregon, Dundee Hills Arthur Chardonnay 2012
2. Domaine Drouhin Oregon, Dundee Hills Édition Rosé 2013
3. Domaine Drouhin Oregon, Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2012
It was not busy the morning I visited. I could imagine sitting on the side patio at Domaine Drouhin Oregon, with this great view of their Dundee Hills Estate Vineyard. Yes, their wines were excellent, of course.
Yes, this is a beautiful winery with amazing views of the Dundee Hills. It is a must-see winery. During a Willamette Valley Wine Country visit you will find that there are also other wonderful Willamette Valley wineries to visit in the Dundee Hills area. Here is a list of Willamette Valley wineries. The Oregon Wine Board also provides a list of Oregon wine regions. I invite you to join me in my travels in the Dundee Hills, Oregon and elsewhere in search of the best in Spaswinefood.
